While civil unrest reeked havoc across the Russian Front, a “key” piece of nuclear technology and the person capable of making it work mysteriously disappeared across Soviet borders and is rumored to be making way to US soil.

As numerous US government agencies frantically scurry to confirm these reports, precious time is ticking away. The President of the United States, George W. Boosh calls for an emergency meeting with his top military & political advisors.


19:26 HOURS - Pentagon

“Ladies and Gentlemen, needless to say I am not in good mood! First of all, for months we have been dealing with this problem in Russia in which you kept me from taking action. Now, you are telling me the fight may be coming here? I will be d@#m ed if I sit here and do nothing! What are our options?”

“Well Mr. President…” The voice of US Defense Secretary Rumfilled bolstered out, “We are trying to gather as much INTEL as possible on the missing scientist, Sergei Chechniev, as well as the Communications Core that was removed from the GBM-31 Nuclear Missile that was supposedly destroyed during OPERATION: JUST HAVOC.”

“What we do know of is, the Anarchist Nuclear Global Evolution Legion’s leader Adrian Birkov most likely is the one responsible. His activities during the conflict in Russia were reported to be flaring up again.” Rumfilled continued.

“Sir, there might be another problem.” A Situation Analyst named James Carlson cautiously interrupted the already tense bureaucratic arena.”

“In the early 80’s when President Ragun’s Star Wars program was being developed, they launched two Satellites called “DAEDALUS & ICARUS” which were rumored to be able to “hack” into airborne missiles and re-direct their path. If one failed, the other could be linked up and act as a “back-up”. As far as the public knew, they were just comm-sats for what was the new cell phone technology back then.”

Rumored? Why the hell didn’t I know about this?

Plausible Deniability Mr. President.

21:00 HOURS – Unknown US Location

The day is almost here my friends! The day in which we will stand as kings! Evolution is now in OUR hands! You have seen my vision of the future and have chosen to stand by me. Together, we will mold the future! Adrian Birkov, the leader of ANGEL-7 toasts his glass of champagne to his “Legionnaires”

Are you sure we will mold the future Adrian? Or, will we destroy it? Sergei Chechniev, the “missing” Nuclear Scientist softly spoke.

“My dear Sergei, the world has been plagued by those self-righteous cowboys like Boosh. It is time that we make a stand and the only way to do that is by making a statement… one that cannot nor will not be ignored.” Birkov replied.

“But at what cost?” Ceasar Millas , the Greek Satellite Technician asked. “What you propose and what you want us to do will throw us into another Dark Ages!”

“At all costs my friends! Yes, there will be destruction. To that I have no doubt. However, from the ashes of the old we will rise like a phoenix and begin to rebuild a new world. When our enemies see the power we possess, the will submit to our will!”

21:12 HOURS ECHO-1 Operations

“Yes, Mr. Secretary.” Answered Deacon Turner, commander of ECHO-1 as he hung up the phone then flipped the switch to the PA System. “ATTENTION ECHO-1 THIS IS OPERATIONS. THREAT CONDITION YELLOW. REPEAT THREAT CONDITION YELLOW. REPORT TO BRIEFING ROOM FIVE IMMEDIATELY.”

As the heads of ECHO-1, the US’s main Extreme Crisis & Hazard Operations group begin to filter into the briefing room, Turner begins to calculate what he will and will not tell them.

“Alright, here is the deal. We have just been given Threat Condition Yellow. I do not have the full details of the situation yet, but, we may receive it at anytime. This is not a drill. I need all section chiefs to start prepping for immediate deployment. Weapons & equipment checks will begin within the hour. As of now, all communications are now in the black until further notice. Outgoing communications are not authorized until we are given the stand-down order. That is All, dismissed. Turner ordered.

23:41 HOURS Pentagon

“Mr. President! Here are the confirmation reports. They show communications between Birkov and other key members of the “Legion”. We do not have an exact location of any of the Legion members due to their high level communication encryption. However, it is confirmed they are within our borders. We are gathering more Intel as we speak Sir.” Secretary Rumfilled informed.

“Well, how much time before they have the capabilities to put whatever plan they have into effect?” President Boosh asked with urgency.

“We estimate we are at ZERO hour now Mr. President!” Answered Carlson.

“Sir, should I make the call?” Rumfilled asked.

“Yes.”

23:48 HOURS Unknown US Location

“Adrian!! Get up here quick!” Shouted Millas.

“What is it?” Asked Birkov.

“ICARUS is lost!” Millas said in an unbelieving bark.

“What do you mean lost?!” Birkov jolted in a panic tone.

“During the up link there was a communication glitch which has sent ICARUS back towards Earth.” Millas continued.

“Fix it you idiot!”

“I can’t! Adrian, we have lost ICARUS!”


23:53 HOURS ECHO-1 Operations

“I understand, Mr. Secretary, we will.” Again, Turner hangs up phone and after a slight pause, flips the switch on the PA system.

“ATTENTION ECHO-1 THIS IS OPERATIONS. THREAT CONDITION ORANGE. REPEAT THREAT CONDITION ORANGE. DEPLOYMENT – 30 MINUTES.”

23:57 HOURS Pentagon

“Mr. President, reports have just come in. One of the two satellite, ICARUS, has just burnt up in the Earth’s atmosphere. Seems the navigation system was being accessed and malfunctioned.” Informed Carlson.

“Where has it touched down?” Boosh asked.

“Somewhere in California, Sir.”

“Send the team to locate and retrieve it. I am sure Birkov will be after it too. I want this situation handled gentleman, quickly and quietly. If this leaks out to the public, there will be mass hysteria and rioting on our hands.” Added Boosh.

“Mr. President, if we can salvage any of the systems on board the ICARUS, namely the Communications Core, we may be able to tap in there to the DAEDALUS and do our own redirecting of any incoming missiles.” Voiced a Satellite Technician by the name of Bernard Hopes.”

“So be it!” belted out the President. “Make it happen! Find what’s left of ICARUS, gain control of DAEDALUS and CANCEL Birkov!”

“Mr. President!?” The cabinet members in a shocked tone asked.

“You heard me! It’s time to play hard ball.”
