Site update

TO DO:
  1. The reply window has some issues scaling and post Icon text is not right yet.
  2. View single post is not utilizing the header texture.
  3. All icons need to be REGified.
  4. NO "reply all" in PM.
  5. more smiles for Greyhound
  6. Team Recognition - Awards missing images update it shows only 07
  7. Add scans of awards and promotion for dossiers
  8. Fix distortion of image for ads

I have made an upgrade tonight. Hopefully you will notice nothing at all. LOL

Also I'm looking at Wordpress as an option for a completely new forum since vbulletin is costly. Wordpress is free but more work on my end to emulate what we already have here.

And speaking of costly... what do you think of generating income for the site cost by utilizing this:

"vBulletin has partnered with Google AdSense to make it easy for you to sign up with AdSense and make money with your online community!

After signing up for a new Google AdSense account (or associating an existing account), your vBulletin installation will include controls to quickly select optimized ad placements without needing to manually edit templates.

Google AdSense will then match ads to your site's content, and you will earn money whenever your visitors click on them.

By signing up with Google AdSense using this system, you are agreeing to abide by the standard Google AdSense terms and conditions, and you agree that your contract will be between you and Google. You will only be able to track your site's revenue by logging into your Google AdSense account.

We are providing this service as a convenience to vBulletin license holders. 100% of the revenue generated by advertising on your site will be issued to your Google AdSense account."

Everyone's opinion is welcome. All Active Regz are required to post your opinion.

How many spammers and how much traffic does the forum/website get now? If we add the advertising widget from Google we will get more traffic sent to our site and with more traffic there will be more spammers as well as attempts to hack the website.

As a revenue generator I do not see it as an issue, I just want to let the site administrator that there is the potential for more outside abuse.

Every ten minutes or so some robot tries to join the site. Weird huh?

Our site it not advertising else where, drawing people here so... why would we have more spammers if there is an Ad banner on our site?

I believe that there are a bunch of bots that get "attracted" to some ads. Sometimes the ads have negative affexts on the site such as slowness and accessability issues. I've never had a message board so I'm just regurgitating some of the things I've heard. An OC sports board I frequent had an Amazon ad that was asking for a server login every 2 minutes while I was trying to read some threads at work. Not sure what the payoff for ads are but weight it against any issues you may have with the site's functionality, if there are any side effects that are communicated. I soubt they would actually tell you what, if any problems the ads may cause. A good idea is to open comms with a couple of forums owner/mods and see how they like the ads.

Just my 2% ...

one of things I'm going to try to implement is "collapsibility" of the tables and such. When you look at the site with a small window should be still readable and look good.

As much I love multicam, that's a bit much on a website (maybe I'm just not used to it). At this point, I still prefer the OD green. It gives the site a neater and more organized look/feel. Whenever I see any camouflage backgrounds on sites, it looks amateurish and messy, IMHO.
